Product Version
Server

Answer

activePDF Server and DocConverter may be installed on a server machine and then later accessed and used from a remote machine on your network. The following requirements must be met before activePDF Server and DocConverter can be used remotely:
  • A licensed version of activePDF Server (installed on the server machine).
  • A licensed version of activePDF DocConverter (installed on the server machine).
  • activePDF Server OCX (installed on the remote machine).
  • activePDF DocConverter OCX (installed on the remote machine).
To set up a machine to use Server and DocConverter remotely:

NOTE: The following directions assume that you have already configured your remote machine to connect to your server and that licensed versions of both Server and DocConverter have been installed on your server.

  1. On the remote machine, download the DocConverter OCX 3.8.x installer from http://www.activepdf.com/downloads/serverproducts/index.cfm. When prompted for a location, navigate to your system's desktop and click Save.
  2. Once the download is complete, double-click the new .exe. file to install DocConverter OCX.
  3. On your server machine, open Windows® Explorer by clicking Start, pointing to All Programs, Accessories, and selecting Windows Explorer.
  4. From Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory C:/WINDOWS/System32. Copy the following files to a removable storage device:
    • APServer.ocx
    • PVW32Cnv.dll
  5. Move the removable storage device to your remote machine. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory C:/WINDOWS/System32. Move the two copied files to this directory. Exit Windows Explorer.
  6. On the remote machine, click Start, and then Run. Type regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\APServer.ocx, and then click OK to register the APServer.ocx and the APDocConv.ocx.
  7. Download the C++ distribution package from http://www.activepdf.com/kbdownloads/11993.zip on both the server and remote machines. Once the download is complete, unzip the file and double-click the vcredist_x86DCWG.exe file to install the package.
  8. Download the C++ distribution package from http://www.activepdf.com/kbdownloads/11994.zip on both the server and remote machines. Once the download is complete, unzip the file and double-click the vcredist_x86.exe file to install the package.
  9. On the remote machine, download the VBS script found at http://www.activepdf.com/support/knowledgebase/viewKb.cfm?id=10672&tk=exVBS&code=VBS. Double-click the .vbs file to run the script and ensure your remote installation has completed successfully.
