Q. How is activePDF DocConverter licensed?
A. activePDF DocConverter is licensed to an individual entity (individual or company)
on a per server basis. There are no penalties for multi-processor machines.

Q. Why limit operations on documents per hour?
A. Since our products are designed for internet usage, we did not want
to limit access to a specific number of users. Instead, we devised a "documents
per hour" throttle that works extremely well. The base license includes 120
documents per hour which means one document every 30 seconds. Of course, your
requirements may be more voluminous which is why we offer document increase packs
all the way up to an unlimited version.

Q. How fast is DocConverter?
A. That really depends on a number of factors :
1) Which converter you are using : The native Word processor is slower than the
generic converter, but you get better results with the native Word processor.
2) Your machine speed, memory and disk access speed.
We have clocked over 600 documents per hour with the native Word converter on
a PIII 500 with 256MB of RAM and over 2,500 documents per hour with the Generic
converter on the same machine.

Q. What formats does DocConverter support?
A. DocConverter supports almost 300 different file formats, all of which are included
with the base license. For a complete list click

Q. Does DocConverter work with Quark or Pagemaker?
A. No and for the simple reason that these packages do not offer an adequate API.
But DocConverter does convert Postscript to PDF, in which case your users
can print to a PostScript file and then drop the documents directly into a DocConverter
input folder.

Q. What advantage is there in using DocConverter?
A. If you have an Internet application or an Intranet with a couple hundred users,
you can save thousands of dollars in software and support by having your users
merely drop their documents into a DocConverter folder. Additionally, since you
control all of the PDF settings, you can be assured that your PDF output will
be consistent time and time again.

Q. I heard that Word or Excel should not be run on a server...is
this true?
A. Both Word and Excel are not meant to be run in a multi-threaded environment.
DocConverter, over the course of converting millions of documents in hundreds of businesses around the globe,
has proven itself by "taming" the Word and Excel beasts and traps any
errors through redundant communication techniques so that processes do not get
hung and require rebooting.

Q. Can I submit a document to DocConverter programatically
or do I have to use the "folder" mechanism?
A. We offer a free COM object that permits the developer to submit the document
either to a local DocConverter server or remotely via TCP/IP communications. This
COM object can be installed on separate servers or even in workstation applications.
