Attach a File to a PDF with Toolkit’s New EmbedAnyFile Method
The EmbedAnyFile method enables you to include any file as an attachment to your PDF. Applicable to a number of business scenarios, this example demonstrates one possibility by converting an original file then attaching it to the output PDF.
The sample application employs activePDF Server and DocConverter to convert a simple file to PDF. The PDF is then passed to Toolkit, using the EmbedAnyFile method to embed the original file as an attachment. The end user can then open the PDF using a PDF viewer, and click the attachment icon to launch the original file in its native application. Download the zip file that contains the sample code in VBS and C#, and the original test file (for this example, a simple .txt file is used). In developing an automated replacement for its labor and time-intensive student grading processes, Independent School District 196 (ISD 196) turned to activePDF Toolkit for a cost-effective, easy-to-use solution. Within four hours of downloading Toolkit, the ISD 196 team was able to successfully generate test output that fully met their requirements. “The tool can be as easy or complex as you need it to be. Features have not been eliminated to make the product simplistic, yet for many projects, only a couple of simple commands are required. It's nice to know we can have it both ways.”

The release of activePDF Toolkit 4.1 introduces several improvements, including:
* UPDATE: EmbedAnyFile method has been added to enable attaching files of any type to PDF. * FIX: The script engine hangs when MergeFile encounters an input PDF that displays the following error in a PDF viewer: "There was a problem reading this document (23)." The script engine now returns an error code when the PDF cannot be read. * FIX: Document-specific. During a CopyForm operation, a System.OutOfMemoryException / System.AccessViolation error is returned. CopyForm now operates as expected, without returning the system errors. * FIX: Adding a digital signature to an encrypted PDF results in corruption of the signature. Encrypted files can be digitally signed without corruption of the signature. The PDF document must be encrypted first, and then digitally signed.
